For residents of Deg Wardey Village, a recent Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) CIMIC patrol under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) demonstrated this broader dimension of military operations. What began with the familiar sight of troops moving through the village soon evolved into an engagement centred on healthcare, humanitarian support, dialogue and community partnership.
During the patrol, KDF personnel provided medical services and distributed foodstuffs to residents, addressing immediate needs while creating an opportunity for meaningful interaction. Beyond the assistance offered, the engagement provided a platform for residents to share concerns affecting their daily lives and discuss issues that have a bearing on their security and wellbeing.
Through their local leadership, residents highlighted the need to clear bushes along the feeder road connecting Deg Wardey Village to the main road. They noted that improving the route would enhance movement and accessibility while contributing to safer and easier passage for the community.
The residents also called for regular CIMIC engagements, observing that sustained interaction between communities and security agencies would strengthen cooperation, deepen mutual understanding and reinforce the relationship necessary for lasting peace and security.
Speaking during the engagement, KDF commanders emphasised that CIMIC patrols extend beyond the provision of immediate assistance. They noted that regular interaction enables security personnel to better understand the circumstances and challenges facing communities while giving residents an opportunity to contribute to conversations concerning their security and welfare.
The commanders assured residents that the concerns raised, including the condition of the feeder road, would be communicated through the appropriate channels. They further encouraged the community to maintain close cooperation with security agencies and continue sharing information that could contribute to collective security and peaceful coexistence.
Such engagements remain an important component of operations under OAB, where community trust and cooperation complement security efforts.
