Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor
Brigadier S S Rashid is the current Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor at the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC). He joined the Kenya Defence Forces in 1990 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, subsequently serving with the Parachute Battalion.
Prior to his current appointment, Brig Rashid served as the Commandant School of Infantry. His other appointments include Sector Commander Sector II ATMIS, in Somalia, Commander 6 Brigade, Chief of Operations at Defence Headquarters, Commander Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB), Defence Attaché Sudan, Commander Ranger Regiment and Deputy Sector Commander Sector II AMISOM among other appointments.
Brig Rashid has undertaken various military Courses including the Grade I Staff Course, Senior Command Course, Grade II Staff Course, Modern Training Approaches, Integrated Peace Support Operations (PSO) Training and International Special Forces Training among others.
Throughout his career, Brig Rashid has participated in and commanded operations in diverse operational environments. His first was with KENBATT 2 under UNPROFOR in the former Yugoslavia in 1993–1994, where he served as a Platoon Commander. He played a key role in KENBATT 14 under UNOB Burundi in 2025 where he led missions that contributed to the successful execution of the mission mandate at junior command level. He also contributed to pacification efforts during AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM I, II, IV and VI). As Sector II Commander under ATMIS III – Somalia, he spearheaded the implementation of the AU’s operational agenda and strategic intent. He further played a key role in the liberation of Sector II in Somalia during Operation Linda Nchi.
Brig Rashid brings to his current appointment extensive experience in command, operations, training, peace support operations and strategic leadership, gained through diverse appointments and operational deployments both nationally and internationally.
