Since the 5th Kenya Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 5) established a Static Combat Deployment in Mambasa, Ituri province, more than a month ago, its civilian protection efforts under the MONUSCO mandate have drawn appreciation from both Congolese provincial authorities and local residents. The deployment has focused on protecting civilians, supporting local security institutions and helping stabilize communities threatened by illegal armed groups.
KENQRF 5 has maintained a visible and proactive presence in Mambasa and its outskirts. Its troops have conducted day and night patrols, often jointly with the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC). These operations have helped deny illegal armed groups freedom of movement and action, reducing their ability to threaten civilians and disrupt daily life. The force has also worked alongside the Congolese National Police (PNC), to ensure that security alerts from local residents receive swift responses.
Beyond security operations, KENQRF 5 has carried out humanitarian assistance activities. These have included medical camps designed to support the well-being of Mambasa residents, reinforcing the mission’s broader commitment to civilian protection and community support.
Against this backdrop, the Military Governor of Ituri province, Major General Gaby Mulumba, recently invited the QRF’s leadership, to convey his message of appreciation to the QRF’s. The engagement reflected recognition of the contingent’s contribution to security in Mambasa and its collaborative approach with FARDC and PNC.
During the meeting, the governor acknowledged that the QRF’s partnership with Congolese security forces had improved response times to security threat alerts raised by locals. He noted that the unit’s continued patrols and community-focused activities had helped build confidence among residents and provincial authorities alike. The engagement signals growing trust in the QRF’s role in Mambasa and highlights the value of joint efforts in addressing security challenges.
