Effective leadership is strengthened through open communication, accountability and sustained attention to personnel welfare—key elements in building a disciplined, cohesive and mission-ready force.
The Commandant Defence Headquarters Camp Administration Unit (DHQ-CAU), Colonel Francis Cheret, underscored these priorities during a Baraza with personnel, providing a platform for direct engagement on professional responsibilities, workplace concerns and welfare matters.
Addressing the personnel, Colonel Cheret emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity and professionalism in the execution of duties. He urged them to uphold Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) values and standards, noting that individual accountability and adherence to established procedures contribute directly to organisational efficiency and operational effectiveness.
The interactive session also enabled personnel to raise issues affecting their welfare and working environment. Through open dialogue, the Baraza provided an opportunity to address emerging concerns, strengthen mutual understanding and reinforce trust between command and personnel.
Personnel were further sensitised on the KDF Mortgage Scheme and the opportunities it provides to support home ownership and long-term financial security. The scheme facilitates financing for the purchase or construction of residential houses, acquisition of land for residential development and improvement of existing homes.
Colonel Cheret encouraged personnel to make informed financial decisions and take advantage of available welfare initiatives to strengthen their long-term well-being.
The Baraza reinforced the shared responsibility of every service member in sustaining a professional and effective institution, while demonstrating the value of responsive leadership, constructive dialogue and personnel welfare in strengthening morale, cohesion and mission readiness.
