Strengthening strategic partnerships remains critical to enhancing air power capabilities, operational readiness and professional development. This was underscored during a visit to India by the Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, which provided an important platform to deepen the longstanding defence relationship between the Kenya Air Force and the Indian Air Force.
During the visit, the Commander held high-level engagements with the leadership of the Indian Air Force, including the Chief of the Air Staff, Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, and other senior defence officials. The engagements provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on air power, operational readiness and areas of mutual interest, while reinforcing the commitment to enhanced bilateral defence cooperation.
At Air Force Station Gwalior, the Commander was briefed on operational capabilities and visited 7 Squadron and 2401 Squadron. He also witnessed a Virtual Reality-based technical training facility for the Mirage 2000, highlighting the role of technology and simulation in strengthening technical training, operational preparedness and capability development.
In Bengaluru, the Commander visited the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, where he gained insights into aerospace medical capabilities and their contribution to aviation safety, human performance and operational effectiveness.
The visit further provided exposure to India’s indigenous defence and aerospace capabilities through engagements with Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The engagements offered opportunities to explore areas of mutual interest in aerospace technology, innovation, research and development, and future capability enhancement.
The visit reaffirmed the Kenya Air Force’s commitment to strengthening professional and institutional partnerships that support knowledge exchange, innovation and capability development. It further provided a strategic platform for advancing cooperation in training, technology and air operations, contributing to enhanced readiness and the continued development of air power capabilities for the mutual benefit of both forces.
