International security cooperation and strategic dialogue remain essential in addressing emerging security challenges, strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering partnerships that promote regional and global peace and stability.
This year, Kenya participated in the Global Security Forum (GSF) 2026 in Doha, Qatar. Attending the event was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K), Major General Joyce Sitienei, accompanied by Senior KDF Officers.
GSF is a platform for bringing together government leaders, security officials, policymakers, diplomats and experts to discuss major international security challenges and explore ways to address them through dialogue and cooperation.
During her visit, Major General Sitienei paid a courtesy call to Qatar’s National Security Advisor, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Misnad, to discuss matters of mutual security interest and explore areas of common interest in advancing security cooperation.
She also met Dr. Joseph Ochugwu, Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and Dr. Bakary Sambe, the president of Timbuktu Institute – Africa Center for Peace Studies for discussions on shared priorities in peace and security.
The engagement provided an opportunity to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise in addressing contemporary security challenges.
In a separate engagement, Major General Sitienei met the Senior Director of Quality Assurance and Business Development at the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies, Hesham Elgamiel. Their discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, particularly in research, capacity-building initiatives, and the organisation of joint workshops to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen institutional cooperation in security and strategic studies.
These engagements highlighted the importance of building strong institutional partnerships and leveraging expertise across countries to develop practical, collaborative responses to evolving security challenges. They also reflected the value of sustained dialogue in identifying common priorities and creating opportunities for cooperation in research, professional development, and policy engagement.
Kenya’s participation in GSF 2026 underscored its commitment to strengthening international security cooperation, deepening strategic partnerships and advancing dialogue on shared security challenges.
Through such engagements, Kenya continues to foster collaboration with international partners, promote mutual understanding and support collective efforts towards sustainable regional and global peace and stability.
