DEFMIS EXPANDS ACCESS TO WORLD-CLASS SPECIALISED HEALTHCARE

Quality healthcare is a strategic investment in military welfare, force resilience and operational readiness. Through international medical partnerships, the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme (DEFMIS) continues to broaden access to advanced treatment for Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and their dependants.

In a significant step towards expanding specialised healthcare services, a DEFMIS delegation led by the Managing Director, Brigadier H. A. Amin, undertook a management visit to India to assess leading medical institutions and explore opportunities for healthcare collaboration.

The delegation visited Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hyderabad, Apollo Hospital in New Delhi and three branches of Max Super Speciality Hospital in New Delhi, evaluating their capacity to provide advanced diagnostic and treatment services to eligible DEFMIS beneficiaries.

The engagement focused on expanding access to specialised medical interventions, including oncology, complex cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, advanced spinal procedures, orthopaedics and renal sciences. These services are critical in managing complex medical conditions requiring specialised expertise, advanced technology and treatment options that may not be readily available locally.

The initiative reflects DEFMIS’ commitment to broadening its international healthcare provider network, enhancing treatment options and promoting timely access to quality specialised medical care for KDF personnel and their families.

By prioritising healthcare partnerships and personnel welfare, DEFMIS continues to advance a comprehensive medical support framework that promotes force resilience, sustains morale and contributes to operational effectiveness.

A healthy force is a mission-ready force. Through strategic investment in specialised healthcare, DEFMIS reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of those who serve the nation and the families who support them.
