KENYA–UK DEFENCE PARTNERSHIP TARGETS EMERGING SECURITY THREATS AND FUTURE WARFARE

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, today held bilateral talks with the United Kingdom’s Chief of Joint Operations, Air Marshal Allan Paul Marshall, focusing on expanding the longstanding Kenya–UK defence partnership and identifying new areas of strategic military cooperation.

Strategic defence partnerships, technological innovation and military interoperability remain critical to confronting evolving security threats and preparing armed forces for the complexities of modern warfare. As the operational environment becomes increasingly technology-driven, Kenya and the United Kingdom are advancing military cooperation to enhance combat readiness, develop future capabilities and address shared security challenges.

The discussions reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration in counter-terrorism, maritime security and military training, which remain central to the defence relationship between the two nations.

Recognising the changing character of warfare, the two military leaders explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in emerging operational domains, particularly unmanned aerial systems, cyber capabilities and advanced military technologies. These areas are increasingly critical to enhancing situational awareness, operational effectiveness and responsiveness to emerging threats.

The engagement also underscored the need to broaden joint military training and professional development across all levels, equipping personnel with the technical competencies, tactical proficiency and adaptability required to operate effectively in complex and technologically advanced security environments.

The bilateral talks reaffirmed the commitment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the UK Armed Forces to advancing a forward-looking defence partnership anchored in operational readiness, technological advancement, interoperability and shared responsibility for regional and international peace and security.
