The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on 18 December 2025, visited Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe as part of his end year visit to Kenya Defence Forces Services and Formations.
The visit was part of his regular interaction with officers and service members while evaluating operational readiness, personnel welfare and ongoing modernisation projects.
Upon arrival, the CDF was received by the Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno at the Mtongwe Jetty. He was accorded a half guard mounted by Kenya Navy personnel.
While addressing service personnel, the CDF commended the Kenya Navy for its exemplary role in safeguarding Kenya’s territorial waters.
“Through unwavering professionalism, sustained presence at sea and effective maritime operations, the Navy has excelled in securing Kenya’s territorial waters. These efforts have significantly strengthened national security and underscore the Navy’s indispensable role in defending our nation at sea,” the CDF stated.
General Kahariri urged service personnel to maintain high levels of operational readiness and continue supporting national security operations.
He outlined ongoing and future modernisation efforts, highlighting strategic investments in advanced technologies aimed at strengthening maritime security. The CDF also conveyed a message of goodwill and best wishes to the personnel during the festive season.
Also present during the visit was the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics, Major General Edward Rugendo, Kenya Navy Formation Commanders, Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members.
