On Friday 10 October 2025, the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) Karen, jointly with Kibiko Primary/Special Needs Education and Junior Secondary School participated in a significant tree planting exercise to mark Mazingira Day. The event, held at the school compound was led by Major General Eric Kinuthia, Commandant of JCSC and Dr. Ruth Kinoti, Head of Institution. The initiative saw the participation of JCSC’s College Leadership, Faculty, Staff and Course 41-2025/26 participants, alongside Kibiko Primary/Special Needs Education and Junior Secondary School board members, staff, area chief and learners.
Dr. Ruth Kinoti expressed gratitude for the strong partnership with JCSC, which has significantly enhanced the school’s environmental conservation efforts. She reaffirmed the school’s commitment to continued collaboration with JCSC to promote environmental security.
In his address, the Commandant thanked the school community for their warm reception and emphasized the critical role of tree planting in environmental preservation. He urged learners to take responsibility for nurturing the newly planted seedlings to ensure their growth.
This joint effort underscores JCSC’s and Kibiko Primary/Special Needs Education and Junior Secondary School’s dedication to environmental stewardship and community engagement, fostering a sustainable future for generations to come. A total of 3,000 trees were planted, contributing to the Government of Kenya’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 and aligning with the Environmental Soldier Programme’s mission of achieving Total National Defence through environmental conservation.
