Deputy Commander Kenya Army, Major General Mohamed Hassan Noor, officially opened a three-day Kenya Army Units and Formations Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) Seminar at Kenyatta Barracks, Gilgil. The event, themed “Leadership and Discipline for a Mission Ready Force,” unites senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) to enhance professional standards, leadership, discipline, morale, and operational readiness across units.
In his remarks, Maj Gen Hassan described RSMs as custodians of Army discipline, standards and traditions, whose leadership ensures soldiers remain professional and mission-ready. He urged open engagement, experience-sharing, and collaboration to build a cohesive force, while emphasising strengthened discipline enforcement, mentorship for junior NCOs, and alignment with modern operations.
Supporting speakers included GOC Eastern Command Maj Gen Luka Kutto, who stressed leadership and discipline as pillars for addressing security challenges; GOC Western Command Maj Gen Jeff Nyagah, who encouraged exchanging best practices to reinforce structures; GOC Central Command Maj Gen John Nkoimo, who urged the participants to deliberate on key issues affecting the Army and Chief of Personnel Brigadier Collins Mitoko, who called for reflection on leadership’s impact on effectiveness.
The seminar features presentations, discussions, and sessions to equip RSMs for their critical roles in the Kenya Army’s mandate.
