A COLLABORATIVE GO GREEN INITIATIVE

As part of ongoing national efforts towards environmental conservation and climate change mitigation, a collaborative tree planting exercise was conducted in various parts across Nakuru County.

The exercise was a joint effort spearheaded by the Kenya Defence Forces troops drawn from the 3rd Battalion, the Kenya Rifles (3KR), the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) alongside heads of institutions and learners from Lanet Primary School, Ndege Ndimu Comprehensive School and Kimani Ngunjiri Secondary school. Local chiefs and community members also played a pivotal role in the mobilization and execution of the exercise.

The event featured planting of over 4,000 assorted tree seedlings across the three learning institutions and their neighbouring areas. Each school received a share of the saplings, which were strategically planted within the school grounds and adjacent public spaces. The activity was not only practical but educational, as students and staff engaged hands on in sustainable environmental action.

Speaking during the exercise, Captain Agnes Kimani from 3KR underscored the importance of environmental conservation as a pillar of national development and human security. Captain Kenas Ng’eno echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for long-term partnerships in environmental initiatives. Local chiefs commended the support from KDF and encouraged students and residents to take responsibility for nurturing the planted trees.

This exercise further contributes to the larger mission undertaken by the 3KR, which has so far planted a cumulative total of 66,700 tree seedlings across various regions. It stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in building a greener, healthier future for Kenya.
