ARCHBISHOP PRESIDES OVER KDF CHAPLAINS RETREAT AND FAREWELL

Chaplains drawn from various formations of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) gathered in Limuru for a spiritual retreat and retirement service held in honour of outgoing clergy who have faithfully served the military community for decades.

The farewell and retirement ceremony paid tribute to the retiring Chaplains for their unwavering dedication, pastoral care, and steadfast support to troops both in barracks and during operations.

Chief of Personnel, Kenya Defence Forces, Brigadier Alphonce Ndar Otieno, The Principal Chaplain, Col (Rev) Granton Mwanyanya among other senior military leadership present, underscored the critical role played by Chaplains in promoting discipline, ethical conduct and spiritual well-being within the ranks noting that beyond preaching, the clergy serve as confidants, mentors and pillars of hope, particularly during demanding deployments and challenging missions.

The retreat, conducted under the theme ‘Refreshment and Renewal’, provided an opportunity for spiritual leaders to deepen their faith, strengthen fellowship and reaffirm their calling to serve.

The service was presided over by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Bishop of All Saints’ Cathedral Diocese and Bishop in Ordinary of the Kenya Defence Forces, Rev (Dr) Jackson Ole Sapit.

During the service, the Archbishop also led newly ordained priests in taking the Oath of Canonical Obedience, reaffirming their commitment to spiritual leadership and service within the military chaplaincy.
