BISHOP PAYS VISIT TO THE SCHOOL OF MILITARY ENGINEERS

The Right Reverend Wallace Ng’ang’a, Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, recently visited the School of Military Engineers (SOME) in Isiolo. The visit formed part of his familiarization tour of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) units, with a focus on the Isiolo region.

Bishop Nganga was warmly received by the schools Commandant, Colonel Paul Nalimo, who described the visit as a significant milestone in the school’s history.

During his time at SOME, the Bishop led an interfaith Padre Hour attended by Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim personnel. He opened the session by acknowledging that his appointment and installation were the will of God, a calling he is deeply committed to fulfilling in service to military personnel.

The Bishop encouraged those in attendance to remain faithful to their individual religious beliefs and actively participate in their religious communities.

He emphasized the importance of open communication, particularly regarding personal or professional challenges, reminding the troops that they are human too, and that suppressing issues could lead to unintended consequences.

“To serve the nation in peace,” Bishop Nganga advised, “first, find joy in and love for the work you do. Be grateful that out of many, God chose you to serve in the Kenya Defence Forces. Secondly, be present and committed to your assigned duties. And lastly, cherish your family and take care of them as best you can.”

Another critical topic the Bishop addressed was resource management and the importance of preparing for life after retirement; a subject he noted as a major societal gap and a leading cause of depression among veterans.

The visit concluded with a meet-and-greet session at Sansiro Baraza Park, followed by a Holy Mass celebrated at St. John Bosco Church within the school grounds.
