The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on 4 June 2025, officially handed over the National flag to a team of 11 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) golfers set to represent Kenya at the 16th CISM World Military Golf Championship.
The event will take place from 22nd to 29th June at the Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort in Diani, Kwale County.
During the ceremony, Gen Kahariri expressed pride in the team’s readiness and encouraged them to compete with honour, dedicating their participation to the late General Francis Ogolla, a devoted golfer, who initiated the bid for hosting the championship.
“Golf is a sport that has gained traction over and beyond. I take this opportunity to applaud you for the great strides you have made,” the CDF said.
He noted that the team had undergone rigorous training in Kwale and urged them to remain focused as they prepare to face top international competition later this month.
Major General Eric Kinuthia, Patron of the KDF Golf Association, praised the team’s preparation in readiness for the championship. He expressed gratitude to the CDF for his unwavering support during the preparation period.
“The team has worked tirelessly as it gears up for the event and I am proud of their resilience and endurance.” he said.
The flag hand over was witnessed by Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda and the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General David Ketter among other Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members.
The championship, hosted under the umbrella of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), will bring together over 20 countries from across the world, with an estimated 122 players expected to participate.
CISM is a global military sports organization comprising 141-member nations, dedicated to promoting physical training, military readiness, and unity through sports. Guided by the motto “Friendship through Sport,” the 2025 championship offers Kenya an opportunity to highlight its culture, hospitality and natural beauty while fostering international military camaraderie.
