The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on 6 August 2025, presided over the signing of Performance Contracts for the Financial Year 2025/26 at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
The event brought together Service Commanders, Directorates, and Defence Controlled Units (DCUs) to commit to measurable goals aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and operational excellence across the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
Performance Contracts serve as strategic roadmaps that help the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and KDF fulfil both their mandates.
In his remarks, General Kahariri emphasised the need for efficient use of allocated resources and adherence to budgetary provisions to maintain the Ministry’s status as one of the top-performing government entities.
“The targets we set should reflect the results we expect to achieve with the resources provided by the government. I know we are doing well, but there is always room for improvement,” he said.
He further urged leaders to uphold trust, accountability, and responsibility in executing their duties, noting that these values are key to building a modern, professional, and mission-ready force.
The CDF also commended the KDF for its significant contributions to national infrastructure development projects, which the Commander-in-Chief assigned. He described this role as a strong vote of confidence in the institution’s capacity and professionalism.
“We are managing these projects on behalf of other ministries and agencies. In the coming year, we hope to expand our capacity to handle infrastructure development both internally and across the country,” he said.
General Kahariri thanked all those involved in the coordination and implementation of these national projects, while noting that internal KDF infrastructure initiatives also remain a priority.
In his closing remarks, the CDF lauded the Commanders for their leadership and dedication, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in every aspect of their service.
