CHESITET KEY LEADERSHIP ENGAGEMENT MEETING

CHESITET KEY LEADERSHIP ENGAGEMENT MEETING

On 03 February 2026, KDF troops operating under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU), participated in a Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) meeting held at Chesitet Primary School. The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between security agencies, government administrators, and the local community in addressing prevailing security and socio-economic challenges within the area.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders with the objective of enhancing security, strengthening community cooperation, and promoting sustained peace. In attendance were National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) led by the Assistant County Commissioner, Chemolingot Division, Major J. M. Mwangi, of KDF as well as local community leaders and elders who play a critical role in grassroots peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

During the meeting, participants deliberated on several key issues affecting the region. Among the issues discussed was the ongoing voluntary surrender of illegal firearms, which was emphasized as a crucial step toward improving security and restoring lasting peace. Stakeholders reiterated the importance of continued sensitization and cooperation from the community to ensure the success of this initiative.

Education was highlighted as a priority area, with discussions focusing on school enrolment and retention. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that all school-going children have access to education, particularly those from pastoralist families who migrate in search of pasture. Participants underscored the need for collective efforts by parents, community leaders, and government agencies to safeguard the future of children through uninterrupted learning.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the importance of peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities, especially during the ongoing dry season. Stakeholders noted that competition over scarce resources such as water and pasture often leads to conflict, and therefore called for dialogue, mutual understanding, and restraint to mitigate resource-based tensions and promote harmony.

The engagement concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong partnership between security agencies, government administrators, and the local community. All parties committed to continued collaboration in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in Chesitet and the surrounding areas, recognizing that lasting security can only be achieved through collective responsibility and trust.
