COMD KAF BRIEFED ON UPCOMING EXERCISE

On 7 January 2025, the Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF), Major General Bernard Waliaula, hosted a delegation from the United States Military Group Kenya, led by the United States Air Forces Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA) AAAFEX Planner, Lieutenant Colonel James Christopher Legge, for a briefing at Kenya Air Force Headquarters.

The briefing outlined the roadmap toward the execution of the upcoming Association of African Air Forces Exercise (AAAFEX) scheduled for early 2027. The exercise is intended to operationalise the Association of African Air Forces and will, for the first time in the history of AAAFEX, comprise both a Command Post Exercise (CPX) and a Field Training Exercise (FTX). Kenya will host this inaugural combined engagement.
The exercise will focus on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) scenarios, requiring coordinated responses from member states across the continent.

Maj Gen Waliaula emphasised the need for practical outcomes that benefit local communities, encourage wider participation, and ensure effective logistical planning. He also highlighted the importance of conducting a comprehensive After Action Review (AAR) to capture lessons learnt and assess the achievement of objectives.

The meeting concluded with the Commander KAF expressing appreciation to the United States for its continued collaboration and reaffirming commitment to strengthening the professional partnership in air capability development, maintenance, and personnel training.
