COMMANDANT JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE ATTENDS 19TH AFRICAN CONFERENCE OF COMMANDANTS

The Commandant of the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC), Major General Eric Kinuthia, attended the 19th African Conference of Commandants (ACoC) held recently in Kigali, Rwanda.

ACoC brings together Commandants of African Command and Staff Colleges annually to exchange ideas, refine military doctrines, and strengthen partnerships aimed at enhancing interoperability across the continent’s armed forces.

The Conference was officially opened by Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Honourable Juvenal Marizamunda. This year’s theme, “The Future of Africa Military Training and Education: Bridging the Digital Divide,” focused on adaptation and innovation to address emerging security challenges.

In his opening remarks, the Minister urged delegates to build stronger networks, deepen mutual trust, and reaffirm shared priorities to ensure that professional military education remains a cornerstone of unity and strategic foresight within Africa’s defence institutions.

The Rwanda Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Mubarakh Muganga, presided over the Closing Ceremony, during which the ACoC Chairmanship was handed over from Brigadier General Andrew Nyamvumba (Commandant, Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College) to Major General Stephen Mnkande (Commandant, Tanzania People’s Defence Forces Command and Staff College).

In his closing remarks, the CDS emphasised that Africa’s future depends on innovation, collaboration, and shared purpose, and called for swift implementation of Conference resolutions to strengthen military cooperation across the continent.

The ACoC continues to serve as a vital platform for fostering collaboration and advancing innovation in African military education, reinforcing a unified approach to strengthening the continent’s defence posture—particularly in training.
