Lieutenant Colonel Celestine Papa, the Commander of Kenya’s 5th Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 5), deployed under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), recently conducted a Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) in Oicha, Beni Territory. Lt Col Papa a paid courtesy calls on Colonel Shere Omeonga, the Administrator of Beni Territory, and Colonel Victor Mpyana, Commander of the Congolese Armed Forces’ (FARDC) 32 Rapid Reaction Brigade, both stationed in Oicha.
During the meetings, the Congolese leaders underscored the essential role of collaboration between MONUSCO forces, the FARDC and local communities in fulfilling the mission’s mandate of protecting civilians and stabilizing the region. They highlighted that the area of operation, spanning from Mavivi to Oicha through Mbau, remained calm due to the ongoing dominance patrols conducted by the Kenyan troops.
Lt Col Papa assured his counterparts of unwavering commitment to fostering strong relations with the local citizenry, emphasizing that such partnerships are foundational to operational success.
The discussions reinforced mutual goals, with the FARDC leaders praising KENQRF’s conduct of operations and its effectiveness in deterring threats thus maintaining peace in a historically volatile area.
