On 17 March 2026, the Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF), Major General Bernard Waliaula, visited Laikipia Air Base (LAB) to assess operational readiness, commission key infrastructure projects and interact with personnel.

During the visit, he officially launched a game-proof electric perimeter fence designed to enhance security and mitigate human-wildlife conflict. He also inaugurated a new Airwomen Accommodation Block and the Main Cook House, facilities aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of service members.

Maj Gen Waliaula visited Laikipia Junior and Senior Schools, where he emphasized the importance of education for the children of service personnel. At the Senior School, he revealed that plans are underway to upgrade the institution into a boarding facility for both boys and girls. He noted that access to quality education enhances morale and enables personnel to focus fully on their duties.

During a Base Baraza, the Commander addressed personnel on the importance of operational preparedness and effectiveness, stressing that discipline, integrity and professionalism are essential for mission success. He cautioned against drug and substance abuse, gambling and reckless behaviour, underscoring that individual conduct directly impacts the Base’s efficiency and readiness.

He commended personnel for their dedication and acknowledged the collective efforts that contributed to the successful completion of the infrastructure projects. He emphasized that every member of the Base plays a critical role in maintaining security, efficiency and mission readiness.

“It is through collective effort that this Base will remain secure, efficient and mission-ready, ensuring that the Kenya Air Force mission and vision are fully realised,” said Maj Gen Waliaula.

Base Commander Brigadier Farah Mohamud echoed these sentiments, noting that the focus at Laikipia Air Base remains on sustaining operational readiness, supporting personnel and ensuring that every project enhances the safety, welfare and efficiency of the Base.

The visit underscored the Kenya Air Force’s continued commitment to operational excellence, personnel welfare and community engagement, reinforcing the strategic importance of Laikipia Air Base in supporting national security.
