CONTINUOUS TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE MARITIME SECURITY

On 11 June 2025, Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, presided over the graduation ceremony of the Kenya Navy Junior Officers Course Conversion (JOC-C) Class 030/24 at the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC) grounds in Mtongwe, Mombasa.

The course serves as the initial naval training for Kenya Navy officers immediately after their graduation from the Kenya Military Academy. It equips the young officers with foundational naval knowledge and operational skills as they transition into active service within the maritime environment.

In his address, Major General Otieno congratulated the graduates on successfully completing the intensive program. He commended their resilience and determination, noting that the course is a transformative experience that shapes participants into capable naval officers.

“The training you have completed was not simply a curriculum, it was a calling. You have been taught to solve problems within the maritime environment. Additionally, the practical Sea Training Cruise exposed you to the realities of life on board Kenya Navy vessels. I urge you to embrace the ethos of continuous learning. The oceans are ancient, but the challenges we face are ever-evolving,” said Major General Otieno.

Major General Otieno complimented the graduates for their achievements and reminded them to embody the three core principles that define every exceptional naval officer: professional excellence, unwavering discipline, and courage in the face of adversity.

The Commandant KNTC, Colonel Benson Karuimbo, urged the graduands to carry out their duties with diligence and integrity, highlighting their induction into the Kenya Navy fraternity. He reminded them that they possess the foundational knowledge and skills to serve effectively onboard Kenya Navy vessels.

Earlier on, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, officiated the opening ceremony of JOC-C, Class 031/25 at the KNTC. He encouraged the junior officers to value teamwork and shared learning during their training period.
