Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya recently presided over the ground-breaking of two transformative projects in Siaya County: the upgrade of Siaya Level 4 Hospital and the expansion of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium.
The initiatives are a joint effort between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the Ministries of Sports and Health, and the County Government of Siaya under H.E. Governor James Orengo.
The hospital modernization will see the construction of a five-storey block with additional beds, boosting healthcare delivery in Siaya and the wider Nyanza region.
Phase two of the stadium expansion will raise seating capacity from 5,500 to 20,000, with new terraces and a roof canopy to meet national and international standards. The facility is set to become a hub for sports, youth empowerment, and local economic growth.
Governor Orengo lauded the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, H.E. William Ruto, for fulfilling his pledge on the projects, a sentiment echoed by other leaders.
CS Tuya commended the strong national & county partnership and urged residents to anticipate the positive impact of the developments.
She was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Dr. Patrick Mariru (Defence), Mr. Elijah Mwangi (Sports), and Dr. Ouma Oluga (Health), alongside Siaya County Commissioner Robert Ng’etich, Chief of Special Projects at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Titus Sokobe, and county leaders.
