CTSAMVM LEADERSHIP VISIT TO DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri, on 5th August 2025, hosted the Chairperson of the Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), Major General (Maj Gen) Teshome Anagaw, at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.

Their discussions were centered on key priorities for CTSAMVM operations to ensure that the mechanism remains effectively engaged and continues to build on the progress achieved in the peace process. As a key guarantor of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS), Kenya plays a pivotal role in fostering dialogue, regional cooperation, and lasting peace in South Sudan.

In his welcoming remarks, General Kahariri reaffirmed Kenya’s steadfast support for CTSAMVM’s mission and the broader objectives of R-ARCSS. He emphasized the importance of stability in South Sudan to the security of the region and reiterated Kenya’s readiness to continue providing personnel, expertise, and logistical support.

“Peace in South Sudan is not just a regional imperative—it is a moral responsibility for the security and prosperity of our region. CTSAMVM’s role is critical in ensuring that all parties uphold the ceasefire and move towards lasting peace. Kenya remains committed to this mission and to the broader commitment to IGAD and regional peace efforts,” said the CDF.

On his part, Maj Gen Teshome Anagaw expressed appreciation for Kenya’s unwavering support, noting that Kenya’s leadership in peacekeeping and mediation continues to set a standard in the region. He provided an update on CTSAMVM’s ongoing operations, highlighting progress made as well as challenges encountered in monitoring compliance with the ceasefire and transitional security arrangements in South Sudan.

CTSAMVM is an institution established by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to monitor the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the conflict in South Sudan. The mechanism comprises representatives from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), African Union, Troika countries, and other international and regional actors.

Also present during the meeting was outgoing CTSAMVM Chairperson Maj Gen Yitayal Gelaw and KDF’s Chief of Strategic Policy and Plans, Brigadier Ronald Makori, among other Defence senior officers.
