A delegation led by Denmark Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Stephan Schonemann, on 03 March 2026, paid a courtesy call to Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno at Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mombasa.
The visit sought to deepen bilateral defence cooperation between Kenya and Denmark with focus on maritime security, training, and capacity development. Discussions centred on the long standing maritime partnership between the two nations, particularly in support of safety and stability within the Western Indian Ocean.
Major General Otieno lauded Denmark’s continued support to the Kenya Navy, noting that the partnership has enhanced operational readiness, professional training, and medical support services. He underscored the importance of sustained collaboration in counter piracy efforts, maritime domain awareness, and environmental protection initiatives.
Ambassador Schonemann reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s maritime capability development. He commended the Kenya Navy for its role in safeguarding regional waters and promoting secure sea lanes of communication vital for trade and economic growth.
The visit reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and military ties between Kenya and Denmark and highlighted the shared commitment to enhancing maritime security and sustainable development within the region.
