Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon Soipan Tuya on Monday hosted Switzerland Ambasssador to Kenya H.E Mirko Giulietti at Defence Headquarters.
The Cabinet Secretary and Ambassador Giulietti discussed opportunities for expanded collaboration in climate security, cybersecurity, maritime security and dual-use technologies including responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) among other emerging areas.
Aided by the 2021 Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA), and the 2025-28 Swiss-Africa Strategy, Kenya and Switzerland enjoy a strong partnership in peacekeeping and defence diplomacy rendered through the Swiss support to the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC).
Switzerland has seconded military and civilian experts to IPSTC; supports UN–AU peace training initiatives; and underwrites courses on law of armed conflict, protection of civilians, and civil–military relations.
Through institutions such as the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), which runs the Defence Attachés Course in Nairobi, Switzerland supports security diplomacy training, an area that Kenya is keen on expanding to include strategic-level military diplomacy and multilateral defence education.
Multilaterally, Switzerland is a strong advocate of UN peacekeeping efforts, contributing personnel as instructors, logisticians, and observers.
In Kenya, Swiss officers contribute to regional peace training and coordination through mechanisms such as the UN’s Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP), co-hosted at IPSTC.
