Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon Soipan Tuya on Thursday 22nd May 2025 inspected the ongoing construction of Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC) and Talanta Sports City Stadium in Nairobi County.
The Cabinet Secretary, who was accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary Hon Dr Patrick Mariru, toured the site for 100,320sqm ultra-modern BICC whose construction began last month.
The multi-facility BICC that includes an 11,000 capacity convention centre, sports/recreation area, animal orphanage, hotel and cultural facilities is one of several flagship Government infrastructure projects overseen by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
When complete, BICC will raise Kenya’s conferencing, recreational, cultural and wildlife tourism profile contributing to wealth and employment creation in line with the Government’s BETA plan.

The stadium will be one of the venues of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship that Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Besides hosting the 2027 AFCON, the sports city that encompasses the stadium and auxiliary facilities, will expand Kenya’s offering as a sporting destination of choice in Africa, add to Nairobi City’s stadia infrastructure and open up the sports value chain for business and employment creation.
Others accompanying the Cabinet Secretary were Commander Engineering Brigade Brig Joseph Mutua, Chairperson of the Bomas of Kenya Board Hon Jane Kiptoo Chebaibai and Ag CEO Mr Jimmy Okidiangi among other senior Government and military officials.
