DEFENCE PS ACCOMPANIES CS HEALTH TO THE GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY OF MTRH 

Defence Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Patrick Mariru accompanied Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Health Hon. Aden Duale in the ground breaking ceremony of the Multispecialty Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. Dr. Mariru represented Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya at the event, which marks a major milestone in the Government’s efforts to expand access to specialised healthcare across the country.

The 4,000 bed capacity ultra-modern medical complex, will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 consisting of 2,000 beds, begins immediately and is scheduled for completion by April 2027. Once fully operational, the facility will stand among the largest hospitals in Africa, significantly boosting Kenya’s capacity for specialised treatment, training, and referral services.

Speaking during the ceremony, CS Duale reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to delivering the project within schedule. “This hospital is a flagship investment in our journey to transform healthcare. We are determined to operationalize it on time so that Kenyans can benefit from world class medical services,” he said.

Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru reiterated the Ministry of Defence’s role in providing its technical expertise and facilitating timely and quality delivery. “Through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), we will ensure strict supervision and uphold highest standards of works” he noted.

Local leaders present also voiced their support, describing the project as a major economic and social milestone for the region, noting that the hospital will serve millions across the North Rift region and beyond. They further reaffirmed their commitment to partnering with the National government in making this project a reality.

The ceremony brought together Governors, Hon. Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), Hon. Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet), and Hon. Stephen Sang (Nandi), Uasin Gishu Senator and Senate Health Committee Chair Hon. Jackson Mandago, Members of Parliament, Principal Secretary for Health Dr. Ouma Oluga, senior county officials, health leaders and local residents.
