DEFRA SHINES AT 87TH KENYA OPEN FULLBORE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 87th Edition of the Kenya Open Fullbore Championship was an important national competition that provided an opportunity to assess skill, consistency, and training standards among shooters.

Held at KDF Range in Laikipia , the championship highlighted strong marksmanship standards and professionalism.

The Kenya Defence Forces Rifle Association (DEFRA) Fullbore Shooting Team performed very well across Tyro (T), Ordinary (O), Xpert (X), SuperX (SX), and Overall (O/A) categories.

Sgt Michael Gitonga was crowned Overall Champion of the 87th Edition. In the SuperX (SX) class, WO2 Joyce Chebii claimed the LT GEN (RTD) ASK NJOROGE Trophy and The Star Newspaper Trophy, while Sgt Peter Kosgey secured the Bronze Medal in SX and added multiple titles in the X class, including the Stewart Wortley, Short Range Aggregate, and Grand Aggregate. WO2 Patrick Mutua and Cpl Martin Kirwa also recorded notable wins in their respective classes.

Other team members, including SSgt Meshack Olela, Cpl Samson Kalima, SSgt Gabriel Leshinana, Sgt Anthony Mbaluka, Cpl Lekishon Kiswaa, and SSgt Brenda Ajiambo, contributed to DEFRA’s strong performance with a series of wins across Tyro, Xpert, and SuperX categories, including aggregate and major event trophies, as well as the Best Lady award.

Overall, the championship reflected discipline, preparation, and consistent performance across all classes, showcasing the depth of talent within the DEFRA Fullbore Shooting Team.
