DESACCO CONDUCTS CREDIT MANAGEMENT AND CYBERSECURITY TRAINING

The Defence Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (DESACCO), on 7 June 2025, conducted a credit management workshop for its leadership and staff in Nairobi. The exercise was led by the Chief Executive Officer Brigadier Nehemiah Kemei.

The training, facilitated by Cooperative Consultancy (Coop-Consultancy), aimed to sensitize DESACCO staff on credit management practices, financial challenges, and mitigation strategies.

In his opening remarks, Brigadier Kemei underscored the importance of understanding credit management. He urged all to embrace the training and be conversant with the risks associated with lending and borrowing as it would improve service delivery.

“Understanding credit management will improve how we serve and relate with our clients. Let us also uphold integrity in our daily operations to foster a productive, trustworthy, and ethical environment – benefiting both the institution and our members,” he said.

Specific areas of training included credit risk management framework, recovery and delinquency management, credit origination, appraisal of loan applications, and emerging trends and technology in credit management.

Staff were trained on assessing risks in financial services, including borrower defaults and reputational risks, as well as the impact of economic conditions on lending. The session further highlighted the need for clear client communication on loan terms and leveraging tools like the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) to minimize defaults.

On the same day, DESACCO held a cybersecurity workshop at Defence Headquarters to educate staff on digital threats and protective measures.

The training sessions brought together over thirty participants, including officers and staff from various departments. Such training reinforces DESACCO’s commitment to continuous staff development and improved service delivery.
