The Defence Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (DESACCO) held its 7th Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM) on Friday 20 February 2026 in Nairobi.
The two-day meeting brought together delegates from across the Services to review the Society’s performance, deliberate on policy matters, and chart the strategic direction for the year ahead.
The Chief Guest, The Vice Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General John Omenda, in his address commended the SACCO’s strong financial performance and affirmed its bright future. “DESACCO has a promising future anchored on impressive financial results. The growth in assets, revenue, membership and lending reflects prudent leadership and strong member confidence,” he said. As he officially closed the meeting, he urged delegates to sustain the momentum, deepen the savings culture and embrace innovation, noting that flexible and affordable financial services remain key to strengthening personnel welfare and operational readiness.
Major General Edward Rugendo, the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in Charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) and Chairman of the Board of Directors, highlighted the Society’s strong performance during the year under review.
“Through focused savings mobilization and quality service, we have strengthened members’ financial stability, enabling our personnel to fully concentrate on their duties in support of the CBR vision of ‘One Force, Mission Ready,’” he said.
He added, “Membership grew by 24%, reflecting successful outreach and KDF support. We upgraded our core banking and mobile platforms, strengthened network security, expanded financial literacy programmes, and improved product offerings. We will continue to strengthen savings, leverage ICT and digital solutions, and deliver tailored services to empower our members while safeguarding their savings.”
DESACCO Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) Brigadier Sammy Kipng’etich called on delegates to actively engage members and keep them informed on SACCO operations and new products. “You have a responsibility to keep members updated on our activities and innovations aimed at improving their welfare,” he stated, emphasizing strict adherence to the laws and regulations governing SACCOs in Kenya to ensure transparency and sustainability. He also thanked Kenya Defence Forces leadership for their unwavering support, which has enabled the Society to achieve steady growth.
Chief of Compensation and Welfare at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Rodha Mwasigwa, who serves as the Board’s Vice Chairperson, in her vote of thanks conveyed sincere appreciation to the Kenya Defence Forces leadership, the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Committee, stakeholders and delegates for their unwavering support and active participation.
Delegates also oversaw the election of new members to the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee in accordance with the Society’s by-laws. Tokens of appreciation were awarded to delegates who demonstrated exemplary service and commitment to advancing the SACCO’s mission.
The event was attended by Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter, Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Bernard Waliaula, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, Service Sergeant Majors, distinguished guests and delegates.
