DFSM ENGAGES SENIOR NCOs AT EMBAKASI GARRISON AND MOI AIR BASE

Defence Forces Sergeant Major (DFSM), Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Haji Omar, visited Moi Air Base (MAB) where he engaged Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) of the Kenya Air Force before proceeding to Embakasi Garrison for a leadership meeting with Warrant Officers.

During a lecture session with SNCOs at MAB, the DFSM emphasized mentorship, discipline and loyalty to the chain of command as pillars of operational effectiveness. He reminded Senior NCOs that they are the custodians of standards and the backbone of the Service, tasked with shaping motivated, mission-ready soldiers through consistent leadership and professional guidance.

“As Senior NCOs, you are the vital link between command and the troops. Your actions set the tone. Soldiers may forget what you say, but they will never forget what you do. Discipline is the soul of a troop. Enforce standards firmly, fairly, and consistently,” he noted.

At Embakasi Garrison, he met Warrant Officers to deliberate on leadership responsibilities and administrative challenges encountered in the execution of their duties. The session provided an open platform for discussion on strengthening cohesion, reinforcing discipline and addressing welfare matters affecting personnel. The DFSM emphasized the critical two-way role of senior NCOs in translating Commanders’ intent to soldiers while channelling soldiers’ concerns and requests to the appropriate commanders.

“Your primary role is leadership and with it comes responsibility not only to the men and women under your command but more so to yourself. You are the custodians of our military’s culture and traditions, the protectors of Unit identity, pride, espirit de corps and heritage,” he said.

He further urged them to uphold the highest standards of conduct, competence and integrity at all times, both in and out of uniform, and cautioned against the misuse of rank and authority, noting that trust and fairness remain fundamental to effective leadership.

The engagements form part of the DFSM’s continued outreach with senior NCOs across the

KDF aimed at strengthening unified leadership, safeguarding military culture and enhancing professionalism within the Services.
