On 21 January 2026, the Defence Forces Sergeant Major (DFSM) Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Bwana Haji Omar held a Clear Lower Deck forum for Warrant Officers at Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Mtongwe in Mombasa.
Clear Lower Deck is a naval term for all hands on board to muster for a meeting.
The forum provided an opportunity for the DFSM to interact directly with Kenya Navy Warrant Officers while emphasizing discipline, professionalism, leadership and adherence to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) values and standards.
The DFSM addressed key issues affecting service delivery, welfare, career progression and operational readiness. He encouraged open communication, teamwork and mentorship within the ranks, urging Warrant Officers to lead by example and uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times.
“All Warrant Officers must maintain highest standards of discipline at all times and remain firm, fair and consistent according to Kenya Defence Forces values and standards,” stated the DFSM.
Additionally, he applauded the critical role that the Warrant Officers have played in enhancing professional excellence and mission readiness of Kenya Navy service members.
