ENHANCING BILATERAL MARITIME PARTNERSHIP

On 08 April 2026, Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, hosted Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, during an official visit to Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mombasa.

Upon arrival, Vice Admiral Swaminathan received full military honors before paying tribute to fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the Kenya Navy Heroes Monument, honouring their sacrifice and service to the nation.

The visit advanced into strategic engagements, including a courtesy call on the Commander Kenya Navy. The leaders held discussions focused on enhancing naval cooperation, capacity building and strengthening maritime security across the Indian Ocean region.

Vice Admiral Swaminathan also toured The Kenya Navy Hospital (TKNH) Radiology Complex, a facility acquired through the Kenya-India Governments’ partnership and provides advanced healthcare support to naval personnel and their dependants.

These engagements followed an earlier interaction in which Major General Otieno attended a formal deck reception onboard India Navy Ship Trikand, co-hosted by H.E. Dr Adarsh Swaika, High Commissioner of India to Kenya and Vice Admiral Swaminathan.

The reception created an avenue for further dialogue, strengthening camaraderie and deepening professional relationships in a maritime environment.
Overall, these engagements highlight the growing partnership between the Kenya Navy and the Indian Navy, anchored in shared strategic interests and a collective commitment to regional maritime security. The visit reaffirmed both nations’ dedication to cooperation, interoperability and the continued pursuit of naval excellence.
