The Final Planning Conference (FPC) for the 14th East African Community (EAC) Armed Forces Command Post Exercise (CPX) Ushirikiano Imara 2026 concluded at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The conference brought together Senior military officers, representatives from defence forces, police components and civilian stakeholders from across the region to finalize preparations for the upcoming regional command post exercise scheduled for May 2026.
The event was officially opened by the Deputy Director General for the Middle East Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Lindsay Kiptiness. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Kiptiness commended the Kenya Defence Forces and Partner States for their commitment and collective efforts toward successful planning, noting that the initiative remains critical in strengthening regional security cooperation.
During the three-day meeting, delegates finalized the planning process, ensuring that all operational, administrative, and logistical aspects are harmonized ahead of the main exercise. Key areas included validation of the Main Events List (MEL) and Main Incident List (MIL), timelines, manning, command and control structures, and site arrangements.
The closing ceremony was presided over by the General Officer Commanding Central Command (GOC CENTCOM), Major General John Nkoimo. In his remarks, he underscored the strategic relevance of the exercise, noting that Ushirikiano Imara 2026 aims to train EAC Partner States and strengthen regional cooperation.
The chairperson of the conference, Brigadier General Earnest Nuwagaba of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces, delivered the closing remarks by commending delegates for their active engagement and valuable input. He noted that the outcomes of the deliberations had consolidated the planning framework and set the conditions for the effective execution of the forthcoming exercise.
