GOC CENTCOM PRESIDES OVER LAUNCH OF PLANNING CONFERENCE FOR ‘USHIRIKIANO IMARA’ 2026

The General Officer Commanding Central Command, Major General John Nkoimo, today joined Senior Military Officers, Officers and Delegates from the East African Community (EAC) Partner States for the official launch of the Main Planning Conference (MPC) for the 14th East African Community Armed Forces Command Post Exercise (CPX), Ushirikiano Imara 2026, at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS), Embakasi, Nairobi.

The three-day conference, will be held in accordance with Article 2 of the EAC protocal on cooperation in Defence affairs and pursuant to the Defence sector calendar of activities for the period January – June 2026. This marks a critical phase in the planning cycle of the regional exercise. The MPC seeks to advance the coordinated planning process in accordance with the approved roadmap, laying a firm foundation for the successful conduct of the main exercise slated for May 2026 at HPSS.

The conference brings together military planners and subject-matter experts from EAC Partner States to refine operational concepts, harmonize procedures and strengthen collective preparedness for contemporary and emerging security challenges within the region. Deliberations are anchored on enhancing interoperability and ensuring a unified response framework for complex, multi-dimensional missions.

During the sessions, participants reviewed and adopted special proposals under four thematic areas that had earlier been validated during the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) in November 2025. These thematic focus areas include Peace Support Operations, Counter-Terrorism, Counter-Piracy and Disaster Management.

The integrated approach underscores the EAC Armed Forces’ shared commitment to coordinated regional security, humanitarian response and stability operations. Through joint planning and scenario development, ‘Ushirikiano Imara’ 2026 aims to strengthen command-and-control mechanisms, improve information sharing and enhance the collective capability of Partner States’ armed forces to respond effectively to evolving threats and crises.
