GOC EASTCOM VISITS LAPSSET CORRIDOR PROJECTS IN LAMU COUNTY

General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM) Major General Luka Kutto paid a visit to the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) road to review progress made since his last inspection visit earlier this year. The visit mainly aimed at reviewing the ongoing road construction progress, enhancing inter-agency synergy, and appraising the project’s strategic impact on regional security and socio-economic transformation.

Maj. Gen. Kutto, accompanied by the Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Eng. Luka Kimeli and Mr Wang Lening (Project Manager, China Communication Construction Company Limited) were received at Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Manda Bay by the Base Commander, Brigadier Lazarus Wafula and Commander 6 Brigade Brigadier Meshack Kishoyian.

The contingent was briefed on the prevailing security situation within the Boni enclave by the Deputy Commander Operation Amani Boni (OAB), Colonel Daniel Rotich. This was followed by a project update from Mr Wang Lening, the Project Manager from China Communication Construction Company Limited, who outlined the progress made since the last assessment. The delegation thereafter toured several construction sites along the LAPSSET Corridor to inspect ongoing works and engage with the construction teams on the ground.

Addressing construction personnel at Kilometre Nine (K9) of the Lamu Front, Maj. Gen. Luka Kutto lauded the improved security climate underpinning the LAPSSET project’s progress, emphasising that the KDF’s enduring presence under Operation Amani Boni continues to anchor peace, stability, and development within the Boni enclave.

“Our sustained security efforts have fostered a stable and secure environment within the Boni enclave. Through the combined presence of KDF and multi-agency teams along the LAPSSET project, we have restored contractor confidence and ensured the steady progress of national development initiatives,” said Maj. Gen. Luka Kutto.

On his part, Eng. Luka Kimeli underscored the government’s steadfast commitment to fast-tracking the LAPSSET project, describing it as a vital artery for Kenya’s economic integration and regional connectivity. He assured local communities that the National Land Commission (NLC) is accelerating compensation for affected households to ensure that progress advances in tandem with fairness, inclusion, and shared prosperity. He further conveyed his gratitude to the KDF troops providing security along the corridor, acknowledging their crucial role in fostering a safe and enabling environment for the successful implementation of the LAPSSET project.

The visit reaffirmed the close collaboration between security agencies and development partners in advancing Kenya’s transformative infrastructure agenda. Under the continued protection of Operation Amani Boni (OAB), the LAPSSET Corridor stands as a testament to the power of unity between development and security efforts. Through enhanced coordination, sustained vigilance, and community cooperation, the Kenya Defence Forces and multi-agency teams have created a secure environment that enables national projects to thrive. Their continued presence not only safeguards strategic installations but also strengthens the foundations of peace, stability, and prosperity across the region, embodying the spirit of development guardians.
