GOC EASTCOM VISITS OPERATION AMANI BONI TROOPS

The General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM), Major General Luka Kutto paid a visit to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under the multi-agency Operation Amani Boni (OAB) in Lamu County as part of his tour to assess their operational readiness and challenges facing the troops.

On arrival, Maj Gen Kutto was received at Kenya Navy Base, Manda Bay by the Commander Operation Amani Boni Brigadier William Kamoiro and the Commander Kenya Navy Base Manda, Brigadier Lazarus Wafula, who briefed him on the prevailing security landscape in the region.

Addressing troops in a baraza at Kenya Navy Manda Bay, Maj Gen Kutto urged the soldiers to remain vigilant and mission-focused in countering all security threats in order to fulfill the Operation Amani Boni mandate. He highlighted the ongoing threat posed by Al-Shabaab militants and stressed the need for continuous situational awareness and collaboration with other security agencies within the multi-Agency Team.

In his message across to all the troops, Maj Gen Kutto encouraged them to remain mission-focused, alert, and supportive of each other. He stressed the importance of maintaining situational awareness, enhancing coordination with other security agencies in the multi-agency framework, and continuing the dominate the region to deny and disrupt enemy movements and logistics.

During his visit to KDF troops stationed along LAPSSET Corridor, GOC EASTCOM emphasized the critical importance of their role in securing one of Kenya’s ambitious infrastructure projects. He reminded the soldiers that their presence along the LAPSSET Corridor was not merely about controlling territory, but was about protecting the economic future of the country.

In addition to pacifying the region, Maj Gen Kutto also placed strong emphasis on troop welfare touching issues on mental health support, emotional well-being, and financial literacy, all of which he described vital to sustaining high morale and discipline within the ranks.

The GOC’s visit served as both a morale booster and a vital touchpoint for continued success in Operation Amani Boni. His leadership, grounded in field presence and practical support, reaffirmed the KDF’s ongoing commitment to restoring peace and stability in the Boni Enclave. His visit also underscored the broader view of leadership that includes not only strategic guidance but also care for the personal development and resilience of the soldiers.
