Kenya Navy Manda Bay Base paid special tribute to retiring Kenya Navy Warrant Officers whose illustrious careers have each spanned more than three decades of dedicated service. The ceremony recognised not only their long years in uniform but also the discipline, mentorship, and institutional knowledge they have imparted across generations of sailors.
The Base Commander Brigadier Lazarus Wafula praised the retirees as distinguished sailors whose dedication has strengthened the professionalism and readiness of Kenya Navy. He noted that their long service reflects the highest standards of duty and integrity, and that their impact will continue to inspire those who remain in service.
“To our retiring personnel, on behalf of the Kenya Navy, I extend my deepest appreciation for your outstanding service to our nation. For more than three decades, you have carried the Navy’s flag with honour, discipline, and unwavering commitment. Your leadership has shaped the character of the entire force and inspired generations of sailors who continue to follow in your footsteps,” said the Base Commander.
For over 30 years, these senior enlisted leaders have been integral to the backbone of naval operations, guiding young service members and women, enforcing standards, shaping unit culture, and ensuring mission readiness across various deployments. Their leadership has inspired professionalism, strengthened the force’s traditions, and contributed immensely to the operational effectiveness of the Kenya Navy.
Colleagues and commanders applauded their unwavering loyalty, resilience, and selfless commitment, noting that their legacy will remain firmly anchored in the Navy’s history. Their retirement marks the end of a distinguished chapter, yet the values they upheld, integrity, courage, and service before self will continue to guide those who follow in their footsteps.
In the same spirit of recognition, the event also celebrated excellence in sports and marksmanship, underscoring the importance of physical readiness and competitive discipline within the force. The Manda Bay Taekwondo Team and the Manda Range Teams were presented with awards for their remarkable performance in the completed Kenya Navy Challenge Cup competitions.
The Taekwondo athletes were hailed for their agility, teamwork, and mental fortitude, attributes that reflect the high physical standards expected of military personnel. Likewise, the Manda Range Teams were commended for exceptional precision, control, and tactical focus, skills that directly enhance operational capability in active-duty environments.
The Base Commander further emphasised that such achievements highlight the depth of talent and determination within Manda Base, reinforcing that excellence in sport and combat disciplines is integral to mission success. The teams’ victories brought pride to the base and served as motivation for other units to pursue excellence both in training and in operational duties.
