KACS TEAM SUPPORTS REHABILITATION AT KAMITI YOUTH CORRECTIVE TRAINING CENTRE

A team of personnel from the Kenya Army Corps of Signals (KACS) visited the Kamiti Youth Corrective Training Centre (YCTC) in Nairobi as part of a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) outreach activity.

Led by the Commanding Officer of the Army Headquarters Signal Battalion, the team toured the facility, engaged with staff, and interacted with the young offenders undergoing rehabilitation. They later donated books, dignity packs, toiletries, and other essential personal items to support the centre’s ongoing programs.

YCTC is a specialised rehabilitation institution established under the Prisons Act CAP 90 to support first-time offenders aged 17 to 21 through a structured four-month corrective programme. The centre employs the Short Sharp Shock (SSS) approach, which incorporates short, rigorous activities aimed at discouraging youths from re-offending.

In 2016, the centre’s mandate expanded to include the care of juvenile remands aged 12 to 18, following an administrative directive from the Commissioner General of Prisons.

The outreach initiative was conducted in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kilimani Alfajiri, a global volunteer organisation dedicated to creating lasting and positive community impact.
