KDF AND BARINGO COUNTY INTENSIFY COLLABORATION

The Kenya Defence Forces and the County Government of Baringo have strengthened their operational partnership following a high-level consultative engagement convened at the Defence Headquarters to deliberate on the opening of security roads within Baringo South Sub County.

The strategic engagement was jointly chaired by the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter and the Governor of Baringo County, Benjamin Cheboi. The meeting brought together senior military officers and county officials to harmonise operational plans aimed at enhancing security and accessibility in the region.

In his remarks, Lt Gen Ketter underscored the critical role of security infrastructure in supporting ongoing operations against banditry and other security threats. He noted that the establishment and rehabilitation of security roads will be a strategic security enabler and would significantly enhance troop mobility, improve surveillance coverage and enable rapid response to emerging incidents.

The Commander reaffirmed the Kenya Army commitment to supporting civil authority through structured coordination and disciplined execution of assigned tasks.

Governor Cheboi acknowledged the sustained efforts by KDF in restoring stability within Baringo County and emphasised the county government’s readiness to collaborate in facilitating the road-opening initiative. He further highlighted that improved access would not only strengthen security operations but also unlock economic opportunities for local communities by easing movement of goods and services.

The engagement culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, with both parties establishing a joint technical team to oversee planning, execution and monitoring of the project to ensure operational efficiency and accountability.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment between KDF and the County Government of Baringo to promote lasting peace, strengthen state presence and foster sustainable development through coordinated security and infrastructure interventions.
