KDF AND UMBUTFO ESWATINI DEFENCE FORCES ENGAGE IN DEFENCE COOPERATION AGREEMENT 

On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Doctrine and Training (ACDF OPD&T) Major General Fredrick Leuria led a Kenya Defence Forces delegation in hosting representatives from the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF), led by Brigadier General Elijah Shabangu, at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.

The meeting centered on military cooperation between the two nations, with a focus on capacity development through enhanced training partnerships. Other Key areas discussed included Defence policy and planning, Personnel Welfare, Terms and Conditions of Service, and joint Career Progression Courses.

The two teams also addressed the Kenya-Eswatini Defence Cooperation Agreement Draft, which proposes further collaboration in defence industry, peace support operations, defence research and development, military health services, border security management, cyber security among other key aspects of defence.

The ACDF OPD&T mentioned the event as a reflection of mutual goodwill, and an opportunity for the two nations to further explore avenues to strengthen relations, share experiences and practical insights and engagements, reiterating Kenya’s commitment.

While also delivering a message of goodwill from Eswatini’s Commander of the UEDF Lieutenant General Hulumende Mashikilisane Fakudze, Brigadier General Shabangu highlighted his gratitude to Kenya and the KDF for the solid and fruitful cooperation the two countries continued to enjoy, particularly in areas of capacity development and knowledge sharing, that continued to hugely and positively impact UEDF’s combat readiness.

They both reaffirmed the importance of joint benchmarking initiatives aimed at identifying and adopting best practices that strengthen operational readiness, improve interoperability, and advance shared security objectives.
