KDF CONVENES 4TH MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) today convened the 4th KDF Medical Scientific Conference in Nairobi, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening military healthcare systems in support of operational effectiveness.

The two-day conference is being held under the theme “Advancing Military Medicine for Mission Readiness: Innovation, Implementation, Resilience and Operational Excellence,” bringing into focus the critical role of medical preparedness in contemporary military operations.

The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, presided over the opening ceremony of the conference. In her address, she underscored the significance of the forum as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, innovation and strengthening of defence health systems in an increasingly complex global security environment.

Additionally, she applauded the annual forum, describing it as a defining moment in both global and national history noting the link between public health and national security has become increasingly evident, and that health emergencies, pandemics, environmental shocks and humanitarian crises continue to shape defence priorities and operational realities worldwide.

Professor Lukoye Atwoli, the guest speaker, underscored the importance of integrating scientific research with military medical practice to enhance operational readiness emphasizing that modern security challenges are increasingly intertwined with complex health threats, thereby necessitating a forward-looking and evidence-based approach to military medicine.

Held in partnership with various multinational medical institutions, the event has drawn over 150 medical personnel from across the KDF highlighting the collaborative and multidisciplinary approach required to address emerging medical challenges within military contexts.

Participants engaged in robust and collaborative presentations and discussions, focusing on innovative medical practices, operational health strategies and resilience-building within military formations. The engagements are expected to generate actionable insights that will enhance KDF’s capacity to deliver effective medical support in both peacetime and operational environments.
