The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) hosted a delegation from the Egyptian Military Academy at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, on 7th April 2026, in a visit aimed at enhancing professional military engagement and strengthening defence cooperation between Kenya and Egypt. The visit forms part of the Academy’s international exposure programme intended to broaden participants’ understanding of contemporary security dynamics and the role of partner nations in promoting stability.
Upon arrival at Defence Headquarters, the Head of Delegation Major General Mamdouh Elsayec Mohamed paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF) Lt. Gen John Omenda. During the meeting, the VCDF welcomed the delegation to Kenya and commended the growing military-to-military engagements between the two countries, noting that such interactions provide an important platform for sharing strategic perspectives and strengthening professional cooperation between the respective Defence institutions.
Later, the delegation was received by the Chief of Training at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Paul Koech, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of knowledge exchange among professional military academies. He emphasized that engagements of this nature contribute to strengthening partnerships and enhancing mutual understanding on emerging security challenges.
During the engagement, participants were apprised on Kenya’s’ national security outlook and the role of the Kenya Defence Forces in safeguarding national and regional stability. Presentations highlighted how Kenya’s’ security environment is influenced by a complex interplay of internal, regional and global dynamics, necessitating a proactive and adaptive Defence posture by the country’s security institutions.
The delegation was further briefed on the regional security landscape, with emphasis on the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean Rim. These regions were described as among the most volatile and fragile security theatres in Africa due to evolving threats and the growing influence of global power competition, making them areas of strategic concern for Kenya and its partners.
The session also highlighted the cordial bilateral relations between Kenya and Egypt, which have been strengthened through high-level visits and sustained engagements. Particular reference was made to the Kenya–Egypt Defence Cooperation Agreement signed on 26 May 2021, which provides a framework for collaboration in areas such as training, professional exchange and strategic cooperation between the two countries’ Defence establishments.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Mamdouh Elsayec Mohamed expressed appreciation to the Kenya Defence Forces for the warm reception and insightful presentations, noting that the engagements would greatly enrich the participants’ understanding of Kenya’s security framework. The delegation is expected to tour various KDF establishments during their stay in the country in order to familiarize themselves with the operational and institutional framework through which the Kenya Defence Forces execute their defence mandate.
