The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces H. E. Dr William Ruto on 27 October 2025 presided over the launch of the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihoods Improvement Programme (MFC–ICLIP) at Gacharage Forest in Kuresoi North.
During the ceremony, President Ruto adopted 50 hectares of forest land under the restoration initiative, reaffirming the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods.
The MFC–ICLIP is a 10-year national programme spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment aimed at restoring 33,000 hectares of degraded land within the Mau ecosystem, the Kenya’s largest water catchment area and a vital source of rivers that sustain millions across the region.
The Kenya Defence Forces actively supported the event, with the Commandant, Kenya Military Academy (KMA), Major General Joel Muriungi Arimi, leading officers and troops from the Lanet region in joining the Commander-in-Chief during the official launch.
Their participation shows the KDF’s ongoing commitment to national development and environmental protection.
Present at the event were key stakeholders from various ministries, state departments, the County Government of Nakuru, and representatives of the local community, all united by a shared vision of restoring and safeguarding Kenya’s critical forest ecosystems.
