KDF MARKS WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY WITH CIMIC MEDICAL EVENTS

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), in collaboration with partner organizations, recently conducted a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) medical outreach at the AMREF Health Africa grounds in Kibera. The initiative was part of activities to mark World Oral Health Day, observed under the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life.”

The community-focused outreach brought together KDF medical personnel, partner organizations, and local stakeholders to provide essential health services to residents. It aimed to improve access to healthcare while promoting awareness of the importance of good oral hygiene.

Speaking during the exercise, KDF medical officers noted that the outreach forms part of ongoing CIMIC initiatives designed to strengthen civil-military relations while addressing critical community needs. They emphasized that CIMIC programmes remain a key component of KDF’s non-combat operations, helping to foster trust, enhance community resilience, and support national development through collaboration with civilian stakeholders.

In a related event to commemorate World Oral Health Day, stakeholders from the health and dental sectors, members of the military fraternity, students from KDF-sponsored schools, and members of the public gathered at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on 21 March 2026.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Johansen Oduor from the Ministry of Health, highlighted the Ministry’s continued efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare and expand access to essential health services across the country. He noted that oral health remains a key component of the national health agenda and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to improve health outcomes.

Officers from the Ulinzi Health Services Fund reiterated the Fund’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote preventive healthcare among members of the disciplined forces and the wider community. They emphasized the importance of partnerships in expanding outreach programmes and strengthening service delivery in oral health initiatives.

During the outreach, KDF medical personnel offered a range of services, including free dental check-ups, tooth extractions, oral health education, and treatment of various medical conditions. Members of the public were also sensitized on proper oral hygiene practices, the importance of regular dental check-ups, and preventive measures against common dental diseases such as tooth decay and gum infections.

Residents who attended the outreach expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it improved access to essential healthcare services while enhancing awareness of oral health within the community.
