The Kenya Defence Forces medical leadership in partnership with a delegation from the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), successfully conducted a one day workshop on HIV program sustainability on 9th September 2025 at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital (DFMH), Nairobi.
The workshop focused on reviewing and adopting modalities of KDF HIV/AIDS program support from the national endeavors through the National Syndemic Disease Control Council ( NSDCC), striving for self reliance. This comes after a stop work directive was shared on 28th January 2025, followed by a minimum waiver guidance.
The Director of Medical Services Major General (Dr) George Ng’ang’a in his opening remarks read by Chief of Medical services Defence Headquarters Brigadier (Dr) Muithia Ngondu, highlighted and acknowledged the significant milestones that has been achieved since the KDF HIV/AIDS program was launched back in 2003.
” We are grateful to each and everyone who has contributed to this success, from personnel managing patients all across our health care facilities, our dedicated program, staff and to all our partners who have offered support over the years. ”
PEPFAR’s acting Director Dr. Dorothy Njeru outlined the Programme’s current posture and strategies, stressing on the U.S department of state six months bridge plan covering October 2025 to March 2026.
” This bridge plan is aligned to U.S president’s budget for year 2026. It’s time to make shifts to ensure continuity under the Government of Kenya (GoK) entities, both the KDF and MoH. ” She added that strategic partnership will see adoption of new avenues in developing self reliance.
The workshop brought together KDF Senior Medical Officers, Director USDOW PEPFAR, and other PEPFAR representatives.
