KDF PARTICIPATES IN THE EASTERN AFRICA STANDBY FORCE COMMAND POST EXERCISE 

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is part of a multinational delegation participating in the first Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Maritime Command Post Exercise, dubbed “Bahari Salama 1,” taking place in Doraleh, Djibouti.

During the exercise, participants are tasked with formulating and executing coordinated responses to crises in line with African Standby Force framework, Djibouti Code of Conduct and Chapter VIII of United Nations Charter, which emphasizes the role of regional bodies in maintaining international peace and security. The exercise underscores importance of a multinational and collaborative response to complex maritime security threats that mirror real-world challenges within the Eastern Africa region.

While officially launching the 10-day exercise, EASF Director Brigadier (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema emphasized importance of strengthening regional preparedness, cooperation, and coordination to effectively address maritime threats such as piracy, terrorism, illegal fishing, and trafficking.

The Head of Kenyan Delegation and Exercise Director, Brigadier Mohamed Shemote, further noted that the exercise marks a significant milestone in the region’s collective effort to enhance maritime security, foster cooperation, and improve the Eastern Africa Standby Force’s operational readiness in the maritime domain.
