On the sidelines of the 41st EAC Sectoral Council Consultative Committee on Cooperation in Defence Affairs, Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri received a goodwill message from the Chief of the Somalia National Armed Forces (SNAF), Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, delivered by Brigadier General Madey Nurey.
In his message, Maj Gen Rageh reaffirmed SNAF’s commitment to strengthening cordial relations with KDF as both militaries work to enhance cooperation in securing their common border and protecting communities in the region, amid intensified operations against al-shabaab. He commended Kenya’s longstanding support for Somalia’s stability and emphasized the importance of unity in addressing shared security challenges.
General Kahariri, in turn, conveyed his goodwill message to his Somalia counterpart, highlighting the value of the longstanding collaboration between KDF and SNAF in tackling common security threats. He called for sustained cooperation to bolster security for Kenya-Somalia border communities as the campaign against al-shabaab is escalated.
The CDF dismissed claims alleging that Kenya had provided sanctuary to Jubaland State Forces in Mandera County, terming them false and a case of disinformation. He urged the Federal Government of Somalia and the Federal Member State of Jubaland to embrace dialogue over military confrontation in de-escalating tensions.
General Kahariri further assured SNAF of KDF’s unwavering partnership, reiterating that peace in Somalia translates to peace in Kenya and the wider region.
