KENYA ARMY ROAD SAFETY DAY: KAHAWA GARRISON RALLIES TROOPS FOR SAFER ROADS

Kenya Defence Forces personnel at Kahawa Garrison marked the Kenya Army Road Safety Day on Thursday with a procession and expert-led engagements aimed at curbing traffic incidents among troops.

The annual commemoration, observed every 27 November, began with a march around the Garrison, signalling the Army’s resolve to promote safer driving habits within its ranks and across the country.

The event was led by Deputy Commandant of Traffic Police Headquarters, Commissioner of Police Tom Okoth, alongside Colonel (Dr) Mtongwe representing the Kenya Army leadership.

Specialists from the National Transport and Safety Authority, National Police Service Traffic Department, and Isuzu East Africa briefed troops on responsible driver behaviour, vehicle condition, and preventive measures that strengthen road safety both on and off duty.

Mr. Okoth praised the Kenya Army for sustaining a culture of safety through routine training, annual awareness activities, and strict enforcement. He urged drivers to remain compliant with traffic rules and maintain the discipline expected of Defence Forces personnel. He also encouraged other government agencies to replicate the Kenya Army’s approach, noting its impact during seasons when accidents typically rise.

Colonel (Dr) Mtongwe centred his remarks on human behaviour, warning against over speeding, alcohol use, drug abuse and other risky habits that fuel avoidable road accidents. He urged personnel to protect their lives, families, and careers by embracing responsibility on the road.

Senior Officers from Kahawa Garrison, NTSA representatives, Traffic Police instructors, and Isuzu East Africa officials joined Service Personnel from multiple units for the event.
